We're delighted to be collaborating with Joanie Clothing on our Reading for Pleasure sweatshirt, which celebrates our mission as a charity to champion reading and make books more inclusive and accessible.

Crafted from a super-soft organic cotton blend, this cosy jumper features an embroidered ‘Reading For Pleasure’ slogan against a green gables or sky blue background. Adding this sweatshirt to your wardrobe is the perfect way to stay cosy in the colder months, and an addition every bookworm needs.

What's more, for every sale of the Anne Sweatshirt, £10 is donated to Cheltenham Festivals to help support us in our mission to promote the benefits of reading literature and inspiring the next generation of readers.

Why we're so passionate about reading for pleasure

Reading is a super-power: it connects us to others, teaches us remarkable things and creates spaces in which we can learn, relax and reflect.

Research studies show that reading is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success and well-being. For adults, maintaining a love of reading in later life offers all kinds of intellectual, emotional, social and economic benefits.

We can build more connected communities with books, and make a measurable difference with them; we all benefit when more of us read for pleasure. That’s why we believe in readers championing reading.

We had an amazing time with you all at this year's Cheltenham Literature Festival, as over 600 speakers across 500+ events joined us in a celebration of the written and spoken word. It gave readers the chance to engage with the best writers working today and emerging writers a platform to find new readers for their latest work.

This year 12,119 school children were welcomed at the Festival as part of Cheltenham Festivals’ Learning & Participation programme , as we continue to build all kinds of spaces to develop the next generation of lit-lovers. We also hosted our annual Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils Conference, enabling teachers and their pupils to rediscover the joy of reading.

The Festival’s Family programme also played a key role in sparking literary curiosity in the next generation. Book sales at the Festival’s on-site Waterstones Children’s Bookshop hit a record high this year, suggesting that this intentional programming around Reading For Pleasure is having an impact.

We also saw so many people around the Festival Village in their Reading for Pleasure sweatshirt, so if you haven't got yours yet, wear your love of literature on your sleeve (or, more accurately, your chest) by getting your own on Joanie Clothing's website.

“It’s so exciting to work with Joanie Clothing to promote our passion for reading. Our charity takes every opportunity to celebrate the change-making joy and inspiration that books can bring to people of all ages - and now we’re doing it in real style" Ali Mawle, co-CEO of Cheltenham Festivals
