Director of Finance


Cheltenham Festivals is looking for a new Director of  Finance,  this is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded arts & culture organisation.

The Director of Finance key responsibilities are:

  • Preparation of the annual budget and tracking of performance against budget monthly, and initiating appropriate remedial action.
  • Monitoring cash flow and ensuring that timely action is taken.
  • Providing management information on individual festivals, on performance indicators and risk areas, and undertaking assignments for the Chief Executive on funding applications, strategic planning and other matters.
  • To be responsible for the timely delivery of Cheltenham Festivals' reporting obligations: to HMRC, CBC, ACE, other funding bodies, and generally to ensure full compliance with Cheltenham Festivals' regulatory environment including liaison with the company organisation's auditors.
  • To provide the financial papers for the Chairman's Committee and Board, and to attend their meetings.
  • To ensure a smooth working relationship with CBC's finance and IT departments.
  • To prepare the financial sections of the Five Year Business Plan and to work closely with the Chief Executive in its preparation


Who we're looking for

The right person for this position will not only need to be a technically sound accountant but also take a lead role in the direction of the organisation, if you have some or all of the following points this could be the next step for you.

  • You will need to have an interest in the Arts Culture & Entertainment Sector.
  • If you had experience of working with a Box Office System this would be beneficial.
  • You will need to have excellent management skills.
  • You will be a CCAB qualified accountant.
  • If you had experience of fundraising this would also be beneficial.
  • You will have worked in senior finance positions in other organisations
  • You have a good understanding of accounting process and systems
  • You will have business partnering experience of managing relationships with non-finance and finance stakeholders.
  • This position is part of the Chief Executive Group and Senior Management board so you will need to have operational experience at this level.

Our internships provide fantastic opportunities to be involved in delivering our top class festivals and to take part in the behind the scenes activities that enable these high profile events to be so successful.

Interns have become an invaluable part of the festival organisation and have the opportunity to experience a variety of tasks including event management, artist liaison, marketing, stage management, use of event management software, data entry and general office administration. This is a fantastic opportunity to see some amazing events, meet great authors, speakers and performers and work with experienced event managers and production staff. Every year, the festival creates an amazing buzz around town and you can be part of it.
