FameLab UK

FameLab UK is still going ahead despite the cancellation of Cheltenham Science Festival 2020. We are hopeful of the UK Final going ahead in June in digital form. Please bear with us whilst we put the necessary processes in place. Applicants will be contacted with more information as soon as it’s available.

Hundreds of science communicators across the UK go head to head every year to become the FameLab UK champion.

Are you interested in…

Improving your communication skills, talking about your research with a public audience and joining a global network of science communicators?

Here’s what you need to do…

1 Read the eligibility criteria to check you can apply. You must be a current UK resident to apply.
2 Look at which regional training and heat you would like to attend.
3 Apply to take part! You will then be contacted by the regional organiser to confirm your attendance.
4 Prepare a 3-minute talk on your research.
5 Attend the training session and heat at your chosen UK location – we’re exploring the possibility of conducting these online. If you are selected as one of the top few participants, you will need to prepare a second talk and attend your regional final.

Applications close the day before the heat in each location. Click here for training, heats and finals info.

Please note: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of Cheltenham Science Festival 2020, we will be reviewing the logistics of the following prizes. More information to follow.

If you win your regional final, you will be invited to:
• A masterclass with a professional science communicator
• Participate in the FameLab UK final
• Receive up to £2000 prize money

If you win the UK final, you will be invited to represent the UK at the International FameLab Finals! Please contact famelab@cheltenhamfestivals.com if you have any questions.

Great instructor, great space to share ideas and thoughts, great group of people to learn from and listen to. I learnt so much and now my brain is full of ideas of what I want to take away from it and build upon in the future.
