Kansas Smitty’s Presents… at Cheltenham Jazz Festival
Last year Kansas Smitty’s House Band blew us away with their takeover of The Daffodil, bringing their unique brand of East London cool to Cheltenham for four sold-out nights. We asked them to tell us what they have in store for us this year…
This year we’re back at #cheltjazzfest with even more Smitty’s favourites on the billing. We’ll be bringing a taste of our bar in Hackney to Cheltenham for four nights only, with plenty of familiar faces as well as special guests from further afield. Check out what we’ve got lined up below:
Thursday 3 May
Cherise Adams-Burnett is a fiercely talented jazz and soul vocalist, and is already making waves at 22 years old. She’ll be joining our House Band rhythm section as we bring specially written material to the Smitty’s stage.
Friday 4 May
A regular at our weekend shows back home in London, saxophonist Rachael Cohen lights up our basement every time she plays. Come along on Friday night to The Daffodil and hear her do her thing, backed up by our gold-plated rhythm section.
Saturday 5 May
We’re going all out this year, with French gypsy swing masters RP Quartet flying over specially from Paris. Band leader Edouard Pennes frequently plays our bar on his trips to London so we asked him to get the whole band down to The Daffodil for this UK exclusive show. There’s also a strong chance of a cross-channel hang later.
Pete Horsfall’s Sunday Service
Sunday 6 May
House Band stalwart Pete Horsfall presents The Sunday Service – a joyous and relaxed evening of swinging southern spirituals, hymns, and gospel tunes. The Sunday Service concept was born in our bar, and is now a staple in our monthly listings. Pete will be backed by his own band of hand picked musicians. For fans of a Sunday sing-along you’ll be welcome to join in song, or just wind down after a busy festival weekend.
We look forward to seeing you at the Jazz Festival!
