Cheltenham Festivals’ Education Strategy aims to unlock talent, enrich lives and illuminate career opportunities for people of all ages. Our aims are reflected in the opportunities we offer both at the four Festivals and through outreach programmes that give schools and communities vibrant and exciting opportunities to take part in culture and the arts and sciences.
A Way with Words is a cross-arts, inter-generational project that celebrates the lives and times of individuals and communities across Hesters Way in Cheltenham. Local people of all ages will become the Story Providers, Story Collectors and Story Tellers; carnival props and costumes will take shape at creative making sessions over the summer; and the project will culminate in a parade and performance at The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival in October 2016.
A Way with Words is the second phase of a 3-year community project in Hesters Way. Phase 1, Going for a Song, took place earlier this year – find out more about Going for a Song.
Opportunities To Be Involved
Performing Arts Practitioners
We are currently recruiting the performing arts practitioners who, in collaboration with the Artistic Director, will help to shape and deliver the artistic outcomes of the project. If you are, or know of, a creative performing arts practitioner who is passionate about transforming lives through inclusive arts, you can find more information, including how to apply, here. Applications close Friday 8th January 2016.
If you are aged 16-24 and would like to learn new skills, meet new people, and find out more about Hesters Way, why not become a Story Collector? Just fill out the Story Collector Form. We will provide training in communication skills; you will have a fascinating and rewarding experience.
If you have a connection with a group, club or society, or with local characters who enjoy a chat, in the Hesters Way area, they could be Story Providers. Just fill out the Story Provider Form to register your interest
If you work with a group of people of any age who enjoy performing and could become some of the Story Tellers at the centre of the Festival performance, please email email@example.com and tell us all about them, and why you think they would enjoy this opportunity.
