2021 sees the centenary of Malcolm Arnold’s birth, and to celebrate this we‘re screening two of his finest film scores. This most prolific of British composers wrote the scores for 132 films, full of drama and unforgettable tunes. Academy Award nominated, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness is a 1958 classic in glorious technicolour starring Ingrid Bergman as a missionary who leads 100 orphans to safety in war-torn China.
Film and music buffs alike might be interested in this Tony Palmer documentary Malcolm Arnold – Toward The Unknown Region: A Story of Survival which features not only extracts of Arnold’s music and contributions from those who knew him, but also covers the darker aspect of his life.
