Mozart Serenade No. 10 for Winds K.361 ‘Gran Partita’ (45’)
Stravinsky Concerto in D for String Orchestra (10’)
Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings (28’)
We welcome live orchestral music into Cheltenham Town Hall for the first time in over a year with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and their Chief Conductor, Kirill Karabits, for a virtuosic and celebratory programme. Opening with Mozart’s sublime ‘Gran Partita’ for 13 wind instruments, the orchestra goes on to mark 50 years since Stravinsky passed away in New York. One of the most important composers of the 20th century, Stravinsky’s Concerto for Strings displays his neoclassical writing at its cleanest-unadorned and alternately gritty and graceful without artifice. The concert closes with another serenade, this time by Tchaikovsky who was inspired by Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and which is considered one of the late Romantic era’s definitive compositions.
The Town Hall, situated on Imperial Gardens in the centre of Cheltenham comprises of a Grand Main Hall, distinguished by its Corinthian styles columns and coved ceiling. The Main Hall is accompanied by dining and drawing rooms, as well as the Pillar Room bar.
The venue’s early 20th century Edwardian elegance makes it the classic ‘shoebox’ concert hall. With a seating capacity of 900, the Town Hall is perfectly suited to grand symphony orchestra performances with a thrilling impact.
