The 2020 Schools and Families programme is a mixture of live and digital events.

Each day at the Festival immerse yourself in a world of books, draw-alongs, storytelling, facts, fiction, and even a live poetry show to watch at home or school.

The Den

The Den is hosted on our digital hub and will feature events delivered by your favourite authors. The hub is going live soon so make sure to check back here for updates.

The programme features a host of amazing writers, poets and illustrators including Oliver Jeffers, Liz Pichon, Joseph Coelho, Lauren Child, Greg James and Chris Smith, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matthew Syed, Anthony Horowitz and Elizabeth Acevedo.


In a brand-new partnership this year, the CLiPPA (CLPE Poetry Award) winner will be announced in a very special Festival Poetry Show on Friday 9 October. Look out for the shortlist announcement on National Poetry Day Thursday 1 October.

CLiPPA Poetry Award Show

Friday 9 October, 2 – 2.35pm
FREE online event, The Den

Come along to the children’s poetry event of the year where the CLiPPA (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) winner is revealed. Hear five poets perform from all the shortlisted collections, watch author and illustrator Chris Riddell draw along and find out who has won the 2020 award, live! There will be news about how your school can be involved in the shadowing scheme too.
