With honeyed vocal textures, Georgia-born singer Lizz Wright brings a powerfully emotional live presence, soulful grooves, brilliant colour and vibrancy to original works and classics. She uses the power of her ‘smooth, dark alto possessed of qualities you might associate with barrel-aged bourbon or butter-soft leather’ (New York Times) as a soaring reflection of her home country’s cultural fabric. Not surprising, she is one of Gregory Porter’s personal choices for the Festival.
