Known for expert vocal ability and her seriously swinging groove, Charenee Wade evokes a classic jazz sound akin to Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan. Alongside various competition accolades, she has also been embraced by some of the biggest names in American jazz including Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride and Gregory Porter. She’ll be performing music from her critically-acclaimed tribute to the socially conscious poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron as well as tunes from her forthcoming new album.

Charenee was first runner-up at the 2006 New York City Jazzmobile Vocal Competition. That competition also featured Gregory Porter who was signed by record label Motéma, the same label that went on to sign Charenee.
