About FameLab Academy

FameLab Academy, supported in Gloucestershire by EDF Energy, is a schools initiative which seeks to revolutionise science communication in schools.

In the competition, Year 9 students, supported by their teachers, prepare 3 minute presentations to explain a scientific topic in a dynamic and engaging way to a panel of judges. They will be judged on content, clarity and charisma.

The winner from each school receives a MasterClass in communication training, a work placement in a local STEM company and entry into the Gloucestershire final.

FameLab Academy is an excellent opportunity for students to develop interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills in a supportive environment that focuses on developing confidence and ability.

How to get better presentations.

 
Each school has a link STEM Mentor from the world of academia or industry for the duration of the project. As part of their support, the mentors have created short films for use in the in the classroom to illustrate the 3 C’s of FameLab Academy: content, clarity, charisma.

FameLab Academy is a sister competition to Cheltenham Festivals’ FameLab – the world’s leading science communication competition which discovers and promotes the best new voices in science, technology and engineering, and is currently hosted in 26 countries.
