We are looking for volunteers to join our MakerShack team. Volunteers will work between 4-8 hours and get £5 towards lunch.
Volunteers will not need specific making skill but to have an interested or passion in making. We will give you all the training you need to help run a station alongside other makers.
Cheltenham Science Festival 2017 will be creating its first onsite MakerShack, bringing engineers, scientists, and makers together to inspire the public to explore the materials world and the joy of making. This will include a whole host of drop-in activities showcasing the world of making.
The space aims to:
- Bring together engineers and scientists with artists, designers and makers to engage the public in exploring the material world and showcase the diversity, nature and impact of engineering
- Inspire the next generation of engineers and makers through hands on activities, demonstrating the creative potential of engineering
- Leave a loacal legacy of engineering and making themed engagement activities in Cheltenham and the surrounding area.
Drop into the MakerShack to explore curious materials such as invisible balls and kinetic sand. Watch wondrous material science demonstrations and get stuck in by constructing an electronic circuit, coding a robot and more.
Squidge and squash a range of materials and learn through play. Book one of our KS1 dedicated Mini Makers slots in MakerShack to learn about invisibility, experiment with kinetic sand, play with robots and so much more.
Volunteers are asked to commit to full time for the duration of the Festival. Working hours during the festival are long and tiring. Days often start at 8.30am for morning briefing and don’t finish until the last event has finishes, sometimes as late as 11pm.

Volunteers will need to have good teamwork skills, initiative, and the stamina to work long hours. Evidence for a passion for Science and/or skills in events management would be a plus.
