Chiaroscuro Quartet

Bach Art of Fugue (selection) (15’)
Haydn String Quartet in E flat, Op. 76 No 6 (24’)
Schubert String Quartet No 14 in D minor, D 810 ‘Death and the Maiden’ (40’)

Star violinist Alina Ibragimova and her Chiaroscuro Quartet’s historically-informed performances shed new light on well-known works. We welcome them back to the Pump Room to perform Schubert’s dramatic ‘Death and the Maiden’ quartet (so called for the slow movement, which features the melody of Schubert’s song of the same name), the clean lines of late Haydn, and a selection from Bach’s shimmering Art of Fugue; a programme ideally suited to the clarity and purity of their ensemble.

…a trailblazer for the authentic performance of High Classical chamber music.

Pittville Pump Room

Pittville Pump Room is an elegant Grade 1 listed Regency building and perhaps the most famous example of Regency architecture in Cheltenham. Standing in regal splendour at one end of Pittville Park, the Pump Room is a monument to more than 100 years of fame that Cheltenham enjoyed as a Spa town.

The Festival’s morning recitals at the Pump Room are its continuing glory
