Marching Band

Calling all jazz musicians

If you attend a senior school in Gloucestershire, play an instrument, and want an opportunity to take part in Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2011, the Jazz It Up! Marching Band might be right up your street.

Led by the highly-talented music educator and jazz guitarist Sid Peacock, the band will march up the Promenade and open Jazz on the Square – the dazzling weekend smorgasbord of free and funky jazz performances in Imperial Gardens.

For more information and to hear their current rehearsals visit Sid's blog: jazzitupcheltenham.blogspot.com

What are we looking for?

We are looking for banjo, clarinet, tuba, trumpet, Eb horn, saxophone, French horn, flute, bass drum and percussion, but will consider other instruments too – basically, if you can walk and play at the same time you’re in with a chance! Whilst we are looking predominantly for grade 7-8 standard, we would encourage you to give it a go whatever your level.

Enthusiasm counts for a lot! We want this to be your marching band. Whilst Sid will be leading the band, your input into every aspect – from repertoire to choreography – is vital.

How do I apply?

"We are very excited about the Jazz It Up! Marching Band – our new venture with Sid Peacock. Not only is it a great way to open Jazz on the Square, but it is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians who perhaps don’t play in a school jazz band, or whose school band doesn’t take part in Jazz It Up!, to participate in the Jazz Festival and work with a leading jazz educator." —Philippa Claridge, Cheltenham Festivals Education Manager
